1er decembre: Concert Hong Kong - HK live - Nicolas on The Guillotine - article “South China Morning Post”

Margaret on the Guillotine chantait le Moz!.. Ca parait «tarte a la creme» mais c’est hélas vrai: «artists, musicians-anyone who desn’t make money in the corporate world, now are seen like layabouts»

               ---------------------

               ---------------------

Sold out.

On l’a joue a l’énergie

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 decembre: Arrivée a Taipei

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6 decembre: Vernissage Expo The Penelopes - Demian by Danakil (Hong Kong Time Square)

Dec, 2007: DEMIAN EXHIBITION / The Penelopes with agnès b. - Hong-Kong !!

Venue: HONG KONG / agnès b. Times Square, Sun Arcade, Festival Walk
From 6 dec. to 13 dec.

Opening Event: Times Square store, on 6 Dec., 8 PM

For the release of Demian, our 2nd single, mixing dream pop with electronic music and refering to the eponymous book of Hermann Hesse, we are organising an exhibition presenting the video directed by Danakil and a serie of his pictures at the source of the film.

Danakil, already known for his work on Nappy, the provocative documentary about the golden youth and for his personnal series published in I-D, Dazed & confused, Vogue or Very, has shown his photographies and video works in the Museum of Contemporary Art de Shanghai, in the biennale of Contemporary Art in Lyon, in the Palais de Tokyo, in the exhibitions Teen/spirits in Melbourne and French Artist is not dead.

The bluish light, the flame with a shade opposed to the spectrum and the evocation of a chiaroscuro (clear-dark), choosen by Danakil for Demian, affirm the identity of the title and the band in a singular and aesthetic universe. The shown pictures could be considered as well as an extrapolation of the striking images of the video but also as the origin of these fragments in his artistic work: we find among these pictures the fascination for the back’s muscle structure and for this young woman, between girl and boy, adult and child and far from the visual stereotypes.

Following the tradition of Initiation, we have asked friends to “Learn to unlearn” by leaving their own artistic discipline, in order to compose an emancipated soundtrack for this exhibition: the author Chloé Delaume, the sculptor Yom de St Phalle and the graphist Well Well give their musical vision of Demian. They’re surrounded by musicians such as The Micronauts, Cecile Togni and Mohini, via their own remixes.

Axel & Vincent September 06, 2007 : June in Asia, July in USA

BANGKOK:

Hot hot hot. Out of the airport, suffocation, tropical climate . Great. Directly to the center of the city by Rama highway. Rama the king’s everywhere. First seeing by landing: Rama. Pictures of him in all the town, with flowers & presents all around. Rama is a jazz lover: the best records seller in Thailande. & Jazz is the 1st music heard. The biggest jazz festivals. Do not laugh at Rama or Buddha: you’re lynched or in jail for life. BUT: Thai people are really funny. And so kind & pur. Almost all dressed in yellow each Monday. Cause Rama’s born on Monday; and each day is associated to a color. Live @ Bedsupperclub.

Great first meets with Hilde who see us play live in belgium, Manee, Raphael, PY... We’re in LOVE with Thailand and Thai people. Cleverness & simplicity. One of the best food. Beautiful girls. Hot hot hot.

Lots of skyscrapers with James Bond style bars on top, 70th floor: incredible views. One building, one slum, one building, one slum. The biggest commercial center in Asia. Between two slums. You can tramp it, no risk. Strange feeling. No violence, “zen” poorness. Land of smiles.

TOKYO:

Living in Shibuya . With our friend Samy Birnbach . Sushis. Lots of people stand on the pavement waiting for the permission. Big zebra crossings. Lots of advertisings. Giant plasma screens which fight in the street. Sushis. Great meat and great meets with Isa, Kaz and P Vine Crew , Richard, Thierry, Yoko. Sushis and hot sake. Drunk japaneese buisnessmen because of one drink. 28 days’ police custody for one marijuana cigarette. No cigarette in the street. Smoking areas. Women-only subway cars. Electronic toilets. Live @ la Fabrique. Suchis. A Yakusa’s funeral procession. Beautiful suits & the Penelopes’ album in all HMV. Japaneese good taste. Fred the more funny manager. Funny bone. No bone in sushi. Samourai movie with Fred & The Penelopes acting. Go shopping in 7eleven by night dressed in kimono, still filmed. To buy bad sushis. Sushis addiction.

”The sad way of  return” as said Gide...One week of sleep : “ Melancholy is merely subsided fervor” as said also Gide

NYC:

Living in Manhattan upper east side 94 th street . No Oussama. Lost bagages. Booked @ MOMA. For Agnes b’s event. Great spot. Go to look through the hole in the floor! No instrument. Cannot play live, have to do the lazy djs. Hate against Delta airlines. Coke en stock. Whisky coke. Broadway: nothing’s special. Ground zero: nice. Steam pipe blast on the way of our walk. Panic in the center of the city. Stop to scream, crazy guy! It is not a terrorist attack. Oussama not here. Just due to your shitty infrastructure. A few days in New Jersey with Samy Jossi Tammy. Swimming pool and typical suburb house. Back to Manhattan: John Lennon is dead. Proof is Strawberry fields. National radio show with Samy. Sushis. Back in France, have to play live tomorrow. Lost bagages. Fuck Delta airlines.

Axel / May 06, 2007 : Sarkozy On The Guillotine

The kind people
have a wonderful dream
Nicolas on the guillotine
because people like you
make me feel so tired
when will you die?
when will you die?
when will you die?
when will you die?
when will you die?
because people like you
make me feel so old inside
please die
and kind people
do not shelter this dream
make it real
make the dream real
make the dream real
make it real
Let The Right One Slip In
Let the right one in
Let the old dreams die
Let the wrong ones go
They cannot
They cannot
They cannot do what you want them to
Oh ...
Let the right one in
Let the old dreams die
Let the wrong ones go
They do not
They do not
They do not see what you want them to
Oh ...
Let the right one in
Let the old things fade
Put the tricks and schemes forward
Away
Ah ... I will advise
Ah ... Until my mouth dries
Ah ... I will advise you to ...
Ah ... let the right one slip in
Slip in
Slip in
And when at last it does
I'd say you were within your rights to write
The right one and say, "what kept you so long?"
"What kept you so long?"
Oh ...

(Original words by Morrissey: "Margaret on the guillotine")

Axel / April 4, 2007 :

We didn’t find time these last months to write in our diary…. No, no !!!!!! we were not on myspace making promotion on wind or empty “egotriped” concept!!! We prefer making music instead of speaking of music that doesn’t exist...

In fact, we were very busy with the release of our debut album.. Many things to do: a lot of anxiety, work and enthousiasm... The album is in general very well criticised.. Les inrockuptibles, a famous french magazine we read when we were younger said that “we give our our best in the more delicate exercise of doing electric pop-songs, with basses inherited from The Cure.” What an honour for us..especially when you know that we are not some stupid children of celibrity (it’s the new habit  now ...strange to see that children of famous people are never some workmen).. Our debut album is now release in Kawabata ‘s country... What a pride!!! P-Vine is our label for Japan and we are currently planning a tour in Asia...

As i said, many stuffs to do this last weeks: we have exceptionnaly been as Dj in Batacan - Paris (yes, yes, we know: ”hang the dj” as said Morrissey), with Eric Margolis we have filmed “In A Storm”, the first video of our album and now we are preparing the video of Demian..

We have also  integrated Nico “Somnibule”, who was initially our backliner, as additional keyboardist and we will have a drummer for the summer european dates.. a lot of rehearsal are waiting us in the near future.

I remember this compilation of Prefab Sprout named “a life of suprises“.. We are working on many other projects (performance with an author, photos..) in order to surprise ourself and maybe you. Samy Birnbach has also helped us in this quest...It was so beautiful and pure to play and work with him  before our 1st gig together at la locomotive...

In 3 weeks, there is some elections in France, ”our “ would-be country: most of the candidates are working in order to earn the power and push the lack of intelligence”. We are working in order to “learn to dislearn”. The future sound of The Penelopes will be  pure, noisy, tumultuous, ambiguous, endless, like the sea, simply ;-).

Vincent / April 17, 2007 :

Surprise! Click here to listen our live version of Statik Dancin' (original by Minimal Compact) we covered for the first time at La Locomotive, with Samy Birnbach.

Thanks to the photographer Stéphane Burlot, in a great health! Even if I smashed his head with one of my instruments during our album release party in Paris, his keen eye was safe.

We create a pretty mess, the mixer and decor have learnt to fly, and it was really funny to see the concert finish in a mini-riot!
